The architect opted for Carthage Mills’ FX-66, a heavier-weight woven geotextile specifically engineered for applications requiring superior stabilization. Unlike standard options such as FX-55, FX-66 is designed to handle more intense conditions—perfect for a driveway expecting frequent use from work trucks and heavy equipment. The goal? To prevent common headaches like rutting and potholes that can plague high-traffic unpaved surfaces.

At Carthage Mills, we pride ourselves on being more than just a supplier of geosynthetics—we’re a trusted partner for the geosynthetics industry as a whole. While we may not wear the title of “engineer,” our expertise and collaborative approach ensure that we can help provide products that meet even the most complex specifications.

Founded in 1958, Carthage Mills set the stage for a revolutionary shift in the construction world with the introduction of an innovative woven synthetic filter cloth. This new product would become a game-changer, offering a cost-effective alternative to the inefficient graded granular filters used in shoreline protection under riprap. What started as a plastic filter cloth evolved into what we now call “Geotextiles,” marking the birth of the geosynthetics industry. Today, Carthage Mills is recognized as America’s first geosynthetics company, credited with laying the foundation for this thriving industry.

We offer geotextile products that not only meet the highest industry standards but also adhere to the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA).

Geosynthetics have proven to be the cost-effective alternative to traditional road construction methods. In paved roads, lateral restraint also called confinement is considered to be the primary function of the geosynthetic. With the addition of an appropriate geosynthetic, the Soil-Geosynthetic Aggregate (SGA) system gains stiffness. The stiffened SGA system is better able to provide the following structural benefits:

Carthage Mills is known as the industry leader in the geosynthetics industry, offering a wide variety of geotextiles, geogrids, erosion control products, geomembranes, and more.

When the test results are reported in English US Sieve units, the result is a MAXIMUM, meaning that the result needs to be equal to or lower than what is required by an engineer. However, when reported in Metric Units (mm) the test results are reported are the SMALLEST (minimum) allowable opening.

As a construction material distributor, it can be difficult to be extremely knowledgeable about every single item you carry (likely thousands!). Not to mention that you’re also faced with the task of getting the most economical prices on the quality products you carry as well as the cost to ship them to your showroom or yard.
